Hydration

Layering water-based hydration the Asian-beauty way.

Hydration is where Asian skincare shines. Instead of one heavy cream, Korean and Japanese routines often layer thin, water-based products: a hydrating toner or “lotion”, an essence, then a serum. Each one adds humectants like hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which help skin hold onto water.

Dry skin (lacking oil) and dehydrated skin (lacking water) aren’t the same thing, and many people in Canada deal with both, especially in winter. Our hydration guides explain the difference, how to layer products without pilling, and when to seal everything in with a moisturizer.

You’ll also find honest takes on which hydrating products earn their price and which are mostly packaging.
