Barrier repair

Calm, rebuild and protect a stressed skin barrier.

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of skin: cells held together by lipids such as ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. When it’s working, it keeps water in and irritants out. When it’s stressed, by over-exfoliating, harsh cleansers, dry indoor heat or a Canadian winter, skin can feel tight, sting when you apply products, or look red and flaky.

Barrier repair is mostly about subtraction: fewer actives, a gentler cleanser, and a moisturizer that replaces what’s missing. Korean and Japanese skincare has a deep bench of ceramide, panthenol and centella products built for exactly this.

Our barrier guides explain which ingredients help, how long recovery usually takes, and which products are worth the money at Canadian retailers. If irritation is severe or doesn’t settle, see a pharmacist or dermatologist.
